I enjoy music of all types. My parents introduced me to the 70s and 80s and I just love that music. I love contacting people and getting new friends. My husband and I go to as many concerts as we can, of course before Covid. I look forward to contacting you on behalf of Radiodowntown.ca

Jeff Kelly

Presenter

Hi I'm Jeff Kelly, from WASHINGTON I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, F.M. Radio was still in it's infancy & A.M. Radio was Huge. I grew up listening to THE BIG 610 KFRC in San Francisco.  Some of the Biggest names in Radio passed through that station. I was inspired by these Iconic Legends.  In the late 80's to early 90's I got my break working in bay area radio.  What a great time that was. I really loved Radio BUT, unfortunately it wasn't enough to pay the bills.  About 12 years ago I got another break when a friend introduced me to internet radio.  I was hooked.  I have been on the air ever since.

Dave Edwards

Presenter

Having grown up in the Sixties, and having experienced the Seventies, he has a genuine love for the popular music of those two decades. His special love of the 70’s is reflected in his show called ‘That Seventies Sound’ which he produces and presents each and every week. The show is not only heard on Classic Hits Uk, but on other quality radio station’s around the globe.

Bob Angel

Presenter

Started in music doing discos back in the day both mobile and resident in clubs, I have been doing radio for years I started doing hospital radio back in the 70's worked on a few stations through the 80's, I have been working on local radio from the 90's onwards doing oldies shows, Rock shows and now bring my guilty secret public country music and I have been doing a country show for about 2 1/2 years now. On the country show I have built up a reputation for giving a platform to new music and artists as well as playing country gold

Brant Zwicker

Presenter

Brant Zwicker got his first taste of radio at Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario, as a writer and announcer way back in 1970, and though he didn’t know it at the time, the seed had been sown. In 1978, after somehow graduating with a degree in sociology, he ran into the man who had produced those early shows and who had become the program director at a local AM/FM cluster. At the Crossroads is heard on a variety of days and at many different times each week. The show has two Facebook pages, a Twitter account, and a website at atcblues.ca, where those air days and times can be found.

Web Radio
Streaming Radio - Radio Station?

I wanted to start here to explain the term Radio or Radio Station or Internet Radio or Web Radio, whatever you call it.  Here is a description that most people seem to believe and accept including me. Have a quick read.....
Nowadays, the term ‘radio’ is used to describe any audio service that provides continuous realtime audio to the end listener. Strictly speaking ‘radio’ traditionally referred to an ‘over the air’ transmission method but in practical terms, whether you use traditional radio waves, streaming, or any other ‘transmission’ method, it is still all ‘radio’ as far as a listener is concerned! The key thing that differentiates radio from other ‘on-demand’ audio services is the perception of a live, ‘in the moment’ service (even if it is actually automated). When you listen to a radio station, you are listening to something that is happening ‘now’ which is often what drives people to keep listening.
It’s also a “shared” experience - you are listening to exactly the same content as all the other listeners, making you feel like you are part of a larger community with shared interests.
That does not mean that ‘on-demand’ should not factor into your plans. The ‘On-Demand’ generation expect to be able to consume entertainment on their own terms, so often a combination of live output and on-demand content is a winning formula!

So to the masses, the term radio means providing real time audio to the end listener, whether its over air waves, streaming or any other transmission method.  So is Radiodowntown.ca considered Radio? Yes absolutely. The bottom line is, if you enjoy listening to Radio in general, it comes in many sources and platforms these days.  A lot of conventional radio people and their station have not really caught up in the real world of Radio, so they tend to put down web radio, because it now provides competition to them.  I have been on several web sites who list what they refer to as radio stations. Both web radio and over the air like AM/FM are listed under that heading of Radio Stations. So its time for some of those dinosaurs in the business for years upon years to WAKE UP!
